Year 6 – Homework

Homework 18.9.20

Dear Year 6,

We are very pleased with your efforts this week as we have learned more about refugees, and revised addition and subtraction methods in our maths lessons.

However, we were most pleased with your EXCELLENT effort for the homework task set for last weekend. We thoroughly enjoyed reading, and hearing some of you present, about Malala. This has been an encouraging start to the year. ?

Your homework, to be completed by next Wednesday, is to write a short biography about a family member. This could be about someone who is at home or a member of your extended family, like a grandparent or aunty/uncle.

We would like you to write the biography in English, please.

Remember the biography features that we have begun to discuss:

  • Opening paragraph
  • -ed verbs (walked, talked, succeeded, moved)
  • Write in the 3rdperson (talk about he/ she/ they)
  • Key events / interesting facts
  • Time openers. (In 2004… During this time…. After that… Following this… Eventually…)

There are some helpful pointers for you here too: https://www.theschoolrun.com/interviewing-to-write-a-biography

Also, why not spend some time on TT Rockstars and Bugs Online to keep honing your skills!

Enjoy the weekend and relax!

Mr Davies, Mr Lewis a Mrs Miles-Farrier.

Homework – 11.09.2020

Dear year 6,

Thank you for a brilliant week back in school. We have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know you better. Well done for settling in so well and into the new routines. We have been busy reading our class novel, writing about our heroes and learning about refugees.

Your homework task this week will be to learn about a wonderful heroin – Malala Yousafzai. Who is she? Collect as much information about her as you can.

What about creating a Flipgrid, powerpoint or an Adobe Spark to introduce her?

Remember:

Who is Malala Yousafzai?

Why is she considered a heroin?

Interesting facts?

Pictures

How has she contributed to society?

Here is an article to help you get started:

Please present your work on TEAMS by Wednesday, the 16th of September.

Enjoy your weekend,

Good morning wonderful year 6 pupils,

We are extremely excited to be welcoming you back to Ysgol Treganna this week and can’t wait to see you all. During the day you attend school, there’ll be a variety of activities to do as well as a good chance to catch up on some news from your friends. On the days where you won’t be coming in to school, we are conducting a sports and well-being week and having a little friendly competition between the communities. So, Pwyll, Branwen a Manawydan, it is your duty to challenge each other and become the home based champions of year 6. We will also be selecting a boy and girl from the year at the end of the week who has shown most commitment and effort and they will receive a prize. To get the week started, make sure you watch this video of famous faces wishing you good luck.  The powerpoint and list of activities will be available to view in your class’ TEAMS page.

Good morning everyone,

A very successful transition week was had last week and we are extremely proud of the maturity shown by everyone with posting their work to Glantaf and Plasmawr. It’s back to normal for this week with literacy, maths and thematic work to complete. So, here we go…

Literacy

This week, you’ll be writing a monologue of someone who has migrated to a new home or a new country. The resources are all on TEAMS. Make sure that you watch the video that Mr Davies has made first.

Maths

This week, you’ll be interpreting data from a variety of tables and graphs and answering questions based on these. There will be 4 different levels – red, orange, green and green green. Choose the level that suits you best.

Thematic work

Migration and immigration will take the focus this week and we want you to look particularly at how this has changed over time. We’ll also ask you to look at a famous migration in history such as the ‘Wladfa’ when Welsh people migrated to Patagonia.

And finally…

Tackle the Big Maths challenges, practise with TT rockstars and read on BUGS Online.

Remember to contact us on TEAMS if you’ve got any issues or questions.

Thank you,

Mrs Miles-Farrier, Mr Davies a Mr Lewis

This week’s work – Transition week

  • You can still do TT Rockstars, Big Maths and BUGS online if you wish.
  • No video calls this week.
  • Please read the letter from Plasmawr regarding use of Twitter – Llythyr Twitter (1)

Learning from home 08.06.2020

Hello year 6!

We hope you’ve had a lovely relaxing weekend.

Thank you once again for all your hard work. It’s been so lovely to see you all contributing to our video meetings and producing wonderful pieces of work on endangered animals.

This week, we are moving on to study a new subject: Changes over time in our local area.

We will also be preparing for the leavers show.

Here are the checklists for you:

Rhestr wirio Cymraeg 8.6.2020

Saesneg Checklist 8.6.2020

Literacy

A WELSH task this week.

We’ll concentrate on oral skills this week and will incorporate your digital skills too. We’d like you to be interactive tour guides and show how your local area has developed and change over time. Mr Lewis has prepared a cheesy example for you to look at to gain a better understanding of the sort of thing we’re expecting. You should use Adobe Spark, Flipgrid (available through Hwb) or any other video creating software of your choice. Pob lwc!

Numeracy

This week we will be looking at different activities to do with shapes. The resources are all on TEAMS for you. Make sure that you watch the video that Mr Davies has prepared.

And last but not least…

Tackle the Big Maths challenges, practise with TT rockstars and read on BUGS Online.

Remember to contact us on TEAMS if you’ve got any issues or questions.

Thank you,

Mrs Miles-Farrier, Mr Davies a Mr Lewis

Working from home 2.6.20

Hello year 6!

We hope you’ve had a relaxing half term! Here we are – ready for our final half term in Treganna! We’re looking forward to seeing you in our meetings this week!

Many thanks to those of you who have already returned the questionnaire to us and to those who have sent pictures of reception class etc. This will help us to create the Leaving Video! This year, we’re very lucky because Mrs Powys’ husband has very kindly written some special words to a well-known song and recorded it for us to use in our Leaving Video! The Video will be a lovely reminder of some of the wonderful memories you have of your time in Ysgol Treganna. We are keen to include everyone who is interested in recording singing a part of the song and to put your voices on the final track for the video! So listen to the track this week and learn the words! The files are on TEAMS.

Literacy task

An English language task this week. You will be writing a report on Orangutans.

You will need to research and plan first and then write your non-chronological report.

Here is the loom video to explain:

https://www.loom.com/share/df7d4afc9a684086bf457674c24628f2

There is additional support on TEAMS under this week’s file.

Numeracy task

Angles will be the focus of our attention this week. You’ll need to watch the videos Mr Lewis has created and learn how to group angles and estimate their measurement as well as discovering the missing angles for the pupils aiming for the green challenge. Before doing anything, however, make sure you watch the following video on bitesize first as it provides an excellent introduction to the topic: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zbcf47h/articles/zd7prj6

Here are the other tasks for the week. Please make sure to ask if you’ve watched the videos and still have a question!

And last but not least, keep going with TT Rockstars, Bugs Online and Big Maths!

Half term!

Well, what a half term, Year 6!

As your teachers, we can’t stop praising the effort and maturity that each of you has displayed throughout this strange time. We are so proud of the way you’re independently working from home and communicating with us during our meetings. ⭐️

As we inch ever closer to our final half term in Treganna, we feel that you are all, by now, showing that you are ready for high school and the next step of the journey. Before that, however, one very important part of the final half term will be the Leaving Show!!

Of course, we would usually perform the leaving show on the school stage but current restrictions mean that we’ll be doing things a little differently this year! We are going to create a Leaving Show video for the whole year 6 cohort. So, we are going to need your help to create the script! We would like to invite you to thing of any lasting memories that you have of your time in Ysgol Treganna (happy ? funny ? or success stories ?). If you have any ideas for the show that you’d like to share, please fill the question on the questionnaire below. The questionnaire also asks other questions about your time in year 6 and your learning. It’s important that you complete the questionnaire over half term because it will help us as we write your end of year reports.

 Holiadur

In addition to any ideas you might have for the show’s script, we would also like you to ask your parents whether you have any pictures  ? of you in reception / year 1 or year 2 or any funny photos of you in recent years whilst in school and for you to send these to your class teacher, in order to help us create the video.

Finally, keep going with TT Rockstars, Big Maths and Bugs Online BUT, most importantly, RELAX and ENJOY the half term with your families.

Online learning will continue on the 2nd of June, which is the Tuesday.

Diolch,

Mr Davies, Mr Lewis a Mrs Miles-Farrier
